Willow Grace

02/12: We’ve gotten so many messages asking about our emaciated frenchie. THANK YOU SO MUCH to those who have sent clothes and beds and food and medicine. You have no idea how much you have helped this girl get a fresh start. Our sweet little Boops is making so much progress. She went to the vet this past week and is up ONE WHOLE POUND!!!! She has officially kicked all the nasty worms, however we are still battling 5 different kinds of bacteria in her GI. Willow is currently on 3 different antibiotics twice a day and will be for probably a few more weeks. Her poop has gone from water to soft serve, so we know we are headed in the right direction. The vet stated she was way too sick for any vaccines so we have to hold off on any regular vetting until she is stronger. She will have to go back to the vet weekly for weigh in’s to make sure she is continuing to make progress. As if her back story couldn’t get worse, our vet determined Willow is probably closer to a year old. When she first came into the shelter, shelter staff thought she was 8 weeks. When the owner came to the shelter he said “I think she’s 7 or 8 months”. Nope. This poor dog has been starved and infested with parasites and bacteria for months and months. We knew this didn’t happen over night but to think that her entire first year of life she has experienced nothing but neglect has just been so heart breaking. We’ve been working hard to help her maintain her body temperature. Some days she wears a couple layers of clothes to stay comfy. She has to be changed multiple times a day from poop accidents. She loves fleece clothes and will often stand up and help you put them on. Our vet wants her on specific food for the next month or two and she’s currently going through about 2 cans a day. We’ve updated her wish list on Amazon! If you can send her anything she would be so appreciative! Our biggest needs for her are wipes, canned dog food, clothes and pill pockets!

02/05: Our Vice President is at it again with these short nosed pups! Willow was found as a stray at a local shelter. When the owner came to reclaim her, they were confronted about what horrible condition she was in and the shelter said they would need proof she saw a vet. The owner put his hands up and just told the shelter to keep her. We immediately stepped in to make sure this beautiful frenchie got the care she was desperate for.

Willow is said to be 7 months old and is currently weighing in at 6.6 lbs. She is incredibly emaciated, as evident in the photos. She has liquid diarrhea and blood in her stool. She is fragile and frail and yet still in great spirits!!!!! Her parvo test was negative, thank goodness. We rushed her over to the vet and she’s being treated for severe worm infestation and untreated Giardia. We are hoping to see improvement in the next few days.

This little fighter is staying in clothes because she’s struggling to keep her temperature up. Her fosters have a sling for her and she would rather be held and snuggled 24/7. She lasts about 10 seconds on the ground before jumping back into your arms. She’s barking at other dogs and has a big personality!!!! Thankfully she is eating and drinking for us!!
