Meet Ginger!

If you’re looking for a sweet and goofy companion, Ginger may be your perfect fit. This 20-pound Mini Australian Shepherd is approximately 4 years old and is ready to become your loving shadow. Whether she’s asking for belly rubs, playfully zooming around the room, or relaxing by your side, she’s simply happy to be with her people.

Ginger came from a hoarding situation with 37 other dogs, and unsuprisingly took some time to open up but is showing more of her personality each day.

She is fully potty trained, crate trained, and sleeps through the night without any issues. Ginger is still learning about the world. We’re working on leash training, and right now she tends to freeze rather than walk. The good news is she doesn’t pull, lunge, or try to run away—she simply needs patience and encouragement as she builds confidence. With a little time and consistency, we think she’ll become a wonderful walking companion.

Because she spent her early life surrounded by so many other dogs, Ginger appreciates having her own space. She can be hesitant around unfamiliar dogs and prefers slow introductions on her own terms. Based on what we’ve observed in foster care, Ginger would likely thrive as the only dog in the home or with a calm, easygoing dog that will respect her boundaries and allow her to settle in at her own pace. We have not had the opportunity to test Ginger with cats or children.

One of the sweetest parts of fostering Ginger has been watching her discover things many dogs take for granted. We don’t believe she had much exposure to toys before coming into foster care, so she is learning the joys of playtime. She enjoys chewing on a Nylabone or rope toy, but her favorite rewards are tasty treats—especially Greenies and pieces of lamb roll. As her confidence continues to grow, we expect she’ll keep discovering new things to enjoy.

Ginger does have a few pressure sores on her elbows from her previous living conditions, but they require no ongoing treatment and don’t slow her down one bit. She has some dental decay and we’ve noticed difficulty with large kibble, but adding water to her food bowl softens the food enough for her.

Ginger is the kind of dog who reminds you how resilient animals can be. She isn’t looking for perfection—just a patient family willing to give her the safe, loving home she’s always deserved.
